There are many meaningful ways to support animals across the Furness Peninsula. Whether you can offer time, a temporary home or a donation, every contribution matters.
Fostering
There are times when a cattery space is not going to meet the needs of one of our animals. An animal may be ill and need additional supervision and care, or feel stressed by a cattery environment and need a quieter, more homelike atmosphere while awaiting adoption. In many situations, a foster home can make all the difference, and having fosterers to call on is a great asset to any Branch.
All fosterers are volunteers, supported by the Branch and reimbursed for expenditures. We provide advice and equipment, and oversee the care of the animal. As with adoption, potential foster homes must agree to a home visit. This helps us assess which animals may be best placed in the home, discuss arrangements and provide information.

Volunteering
Most of the work carried out by our Branch is performed by volunteers. From our Committee of Trustees to cat socialisers and fundraisers, the Branch could not function without people who give their time to help animals on the Furness Peninsula. There are many opportunities available, and we provide free training where needed.

Fundraising
Like all RSPCA Branches, we are a separately registered charity responsible for raising our own funds to provide for the care and welfare of animals in our Branch area. Fundraising is vital to our ability to do this much-needed work.
You can leave us a legacy in your will in three different ways. The legacy must specify that the gift is for the RSPCA Furness and Barrow Branch and include our registered charity number, 232247.
A percentage of your estate is left as a gift.
A specific amount of money is left as a gift.
A valuable item is left as a gift, including property, furniture, stocks and shares, or jewellery.

Membership
Join us in the prevention of cruelty to animals on the Furness Peninsula and throughout England. Being a member of the Furness and Barrow Branch means you are directly involved with assisting animals in our area.
You will receive an annual invitation to our AGM, where you can vote on issues concerning the Branch and elect Branch Trustees. At the AGM, you will receive a copy of our Annual Report detailing our activities during the previous year. Branch membership of three months or more also makes you eligible to run for a position as a Branch Trustee. As an affiliate of the National RSPCA, your Branch membership also provides all the benefits of National membership.
Registering to become a Branch member is easy. Visit the RSPCA membership page and, under “Please use my donation to support”, select “my local RSPCA branch”. A percentage of Branch membership dues is passed back to support our local work, while your dues also support the work of the RSPCA Inspectorate on the frontlines.
